Job Description

The Mechanical Insulator applies, removes, and repairs insulation on mechanical systems like pipes, ducts, and equipment to control temperature and noise, improving energy efficiency and system performance.

Qualifications:

• Prior experience in insulation or a related mechanical trade.
• Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
• Must be comfortable working outside
• Must be able to perform job duties that require standing, crouching, twisting upper body, and lifting up to 50 lbs. unassisted
• Ability to read and follow installation instructions and basic mechanical drawings
• A valid driver's license
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Willingness to work flexible hours as needed based on site requirements
• Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities.
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
• Interact with co-workers in an attentive courteous manner;
• Additional duties as directed by management

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Familiar with installation practices of fiberglass, urethane, and high-temperature insulation on piping, ducting, and system components
• Fabricates and installs a variety of insulation materials for mechanical piping, duct work and equipment utilizing the tools of the trade, consistent with industry standards.
• Fabricates and installs PVC or metal jacketing, elbows and removable covers, for durability, appearance or weather resistance for mechanical piping, duct work and equipment utilizing tools of the trade consistent with industry standards.
• Familiar with mechanical piping systems and HVAC ductwork
• Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, details and mechanical specs
• Follows diagrams, blueprints, and sketches showing location of piping, duct work and equipment to be insulated and jacketed (if specified).
• Familiarity with fire stopping details, installation requirements and practices.
• Ensure a high level of fit and finish, especially for visible or customer-facing areas
• Operate hand and power tools required for cutting, shaping, and securing insulation materials
• Work on ladders, scaffolds, and powered lifts, following all safety protocols
• Use fall protection and other required PPE for elevated or hazardous job sites
• Work within various site schedule requirements, including early mornings, and occasional night shifts or weekends
• Complete tasks on time and within budget with minimal direct supervision
